Lonely Dachshunds, Bulgaria pic

I think my poor babies were sure I really did abandon them. First it was gone all day at the hospital, then it was just GONE! You can explain a trip to children, but not to dogs. A 10 day trip to Bulgaria, and I'm back. At least they had one son here to take care of them (but his lap is not nearly as compfy as mine). Ohh the whining and jumping when I came home! Then they ran staight to the dog milkbone box for a treat..haha! My son did just fine. I don't think he missed me any (I don't think they're allowed to miss mom at that age).
Bulgaria is beautiful, the people are fantastic and very family oriented. It is a shame that some people go there to just use people. The food is wonderful, except I am not a cheese and cucumber person ...and boy do they love cheese and cucumbers!!!! But there was plenty of other WONDERFUL food to eat. We had a group of college students, most getting degrees in tourism, that led us around for a few days. They were fantastic and really "made the trip."

ICU

Words no one wants to hear, especially when it's your son. But 4 days of ICU (5 total in the hospital) and he was out! He had Bi-lateral pneumonia, with viral and bacterial infection ( staph warneri, a strain that they had NEVER seen in the lungs before...yep they had to call the infectious desease center) and hypoxia (not enough oxygen in blood). He was one sick kid. But he kept telling me he was feeling better (he's 17). I finally threatened to drag him to the Dr, even if it broke my back, and the next morning he said he was ready to go see a Dr. His dad was in from Iraq, so he took him. Dad stayed the nights, and I stayed the days and evenings. Somehow, sitting around in ICU all day tires you out. Go figure. That was in May. His check up showed the lungs all clear!! Thank the Lord. I'm so glad God prompted us to get him in there and for the medicines we have.
After he got out of the hospital, I had to prepare for a trip. I was leaving for Bulgaria with a group, and it was not easy getting ready to leave, so soon after he'd been in the hospital. But the good X-ray report helped ease my mind some, and he was surrounded with grandparents and an aunt that kept a good eye on him (awe shucks....he thought, probably...haha).
So I am very thankful to our healing God and for all the people who prayed for my son during all this and while I was in Bulgaria.
As for my poor dachshunds.....I think they felt abandoned! Poor babies. But as soon as I would sit down, they were there to jump in my lap, curl up in a ball, with hopes that I would sit long enough for them to take a nap.

A Lone Bluebonnet Plant

Just about every year I buy bluebonnets (Texas state flower) to plant around my pecan trees (in my front yard). A few have come up the next year, only a couple of times. So each year I buy more bluebonnets. This year, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK YARD, the biggest, healthiest, prettiest, bluebonnet plant pops up! ONE PLANT! The neighbor to the back and side of me has a bunch in her back yard every year, and I suspect the birds/wind dropped a seed. So my son mowed around it. Who knows, maybe next year he'll have more bluebonnets to mow around in the back yard. They must like to grow in the grass better than the flower garden!!!!
Here is another web site about Bluebonnets.

Spring is almost here!!!!

We've had a rainy winter, not to complain. It is better than too dry or the poor fellows up north that keep getting sub zero temperatures. I am soooo looking forward to Spring and sunshine. Of course, after that, comes the extreme heat. haha The extreme humidity comes year round, with just a little break off and on in the winter and fall.
BUT for now, the birds are chirping like crazy, the weeds are growing like crazing, and the temp is going crazy...30's, 50's, 80's, 40's...70's...It's sunny, then it storms; you never know what to expect, that's kind of nice. It's flower & vegi planting time.
Oh, don't you just love Spring!

xylitol-sugar substitute-dangerous for dogs

The sugar substitute, xylitol, is very dangerous for dogs. A lot of sugerless gums use it, among other things. Go to the web page, and read the article for the info.
Please keep people food out of reach from your pets. They are like toddlers. They try to sneak a bite of whatever they can, whenever they can. I received an email about a lady's dachshund that got into a purse to get the gum!
Here's a Valentine's pic of Tansy, one of my babies that I sold last year. She's well loved and spoiled. http://www.avma.org/press/releases/061001_xylitol.asp

Happy 95th Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA, GREAT-GRANDMA, GREAT- GREAT GRANDMA, MOM, etc! Yep, 95 years, and she still lives on her on! She's lived through hard times and not so hard. When she had her East Texas farm, as kids, we took turns staying with her, in the summer. The sun would barely be up, and she would be singing and telling us to get up, the day's a wastin' and half the day's gone. We would spend the morning picking vegi's and running from the bees. haha. The hot afternoon would include a nap, after shelling the beans and peas. We almost always HAD to fish in the evenings. If a snake came after me, and I started swatting my fishin' pole at it or jumpin' or runnin' from it, she'd start hollorin' at me. After all, I was disturbing the fish!!! She was a hoot and still is! Then there was taking care of the cows, shooting the gun in the middle of the night to scare the coyotes, and my pet opossums (I had 2 babies I saved and took home). We had to can lots of the fruits and vegi's. The work was hard, but we couldn't wait for next summer to come and were a little jealous if one of the other kids got to stay longer. We filled the nights with cards and dominoes ( and yes, Grandma has been know to cheat). Best of all was the cooking and all the fresh food! Oh, I could eat 5 ears of corn in 1 meal, and I was a skinny thing..... a plate full of fresh blackeyed peas with tomatoes, or how about half a watermelon...mmmm good! Grandma, thanks for the great childhood memories, the good food, the love, and all that rocking! And I STILL have a hard time keeping up with YOU! God Bless You!

Merry Christmas!

Our dog, Precious, is enjoying her first white Christmas (2004). Our pets get excited along with us during the holidays, so don't forget to enjoy them, also.
I hope y'all have a Merry Christmas and know the love of our Savior Jesus!

I love a good laugh...espcially when it's on me!

First this pic has nothing to do with the story. BUT, for all the times it was said, there would NEVER be a WHITE CHRISTMAS, in south Texas, on the Gulf coast......Here's to THE God doing whatever He pleases, to bless! Two years ago we got our white Christmas, with 2 feet of snow...impossible..... I don't think so.... very unlikely, yeah, but it happened! Now to the story about Christmas shopping orders!

My sister has a gift store (for 17+ years). It's a very special store that ladies LOVE to go to. When relatives visit, from out of town, they tell their folks they want to come to her store, while they are in the area. Her toll free number gets routed to my home, since her store gets very busy. So I take any questions someone may have, etc. (some may be about internet orders).
So a few days ago, I get a call for a "Mrs. Very Famous Family USA" name to place an order (it was a man placing the order....I just thought he was placing it for his wife, or something like that). I asked if the name was with "1 certain letter or 2". He said one, sounding like what kind of idiot didn't know how to spell their name. The deal is, that I lived in South Texas for over 20 years, and there was a whole family of ranchers with the same name with "1 certain letter" in it. And THEY had a whole county NAMED after them (never mind that the county had way more cows than people). I wasn't going to make fun of this fella', and say something like hey just like the famous "so and so's". At this point, I never really thought it could possibly be the REAL famous ones. So I keep plugging along, asking for his address, and as my pen is skipping out, I have to ask him to spell the address a couple of times, etc ( by now the guy's got the be thinking what idiot have I called up?). As we get near the end he informs me that he is her personal assistant, and to be sure to send this, attention to "Mrs. Very Famous Person USA". It wasn't until then that everything suddenly hit me. The name, address, and PERSONAL ASSISTANT were indicators that either this was THE family, or we were being scammed. I thanked him for the order and hung up.
I cracked up laughing, thinking if he was the real deal, he must've thought he had just got of the phone with the biggest idiot from "Podunk, Texas," and what was he doing giving his CC info out to her. But then I thought if he is the real deal, he didn't have to worry about his CC. If there was any wrong doings on our end, they could hunt us down in a flash. My sister's first response was...oh this has to be a scam. I looked up the address he gave me. You could get a virtual reality tour online of their home.....but then anyone could look that up and get that info. I didn't get all the info my sister needed for the order, so I told her she could call him back. I said I made a big enough idiot of myself the first time, asking him to respell everything. It looks like it is the real family. I laughed so much at myself, wondering if that guy thought there could be people that uneducated, in civilization, that has never heard of this family. But then again, many claim that Texas is not civilized! Merry Christmas!
